The 24H du Mans in watercolours
Since 1923, each year during the 24 Heures, by night and by day, drivers and teams compete regardless of weather conditions. Professionals and amateurs at the wheel of cars in different categories challenge each other to cover the as many kilometres as possible in 24 hours. Artist Yahn Janou illustrates the history of the race in his watercolours. The artist illustrates more than just the lines of the cars. The competition is alive: overtaking, pit stops, curves... His work exudes the tension of the race. His coloured paintings convey power and energy in a free and precise style, plunging the spectator into an action-packed colourful world. His watercolours represent the 85 victorious cars and winning drivers including Tom Kristensen, Jacky Ickx, Derek Bell, Yannick Dalmas, Henri Pescarolo, Olivier Gendebien, Woolf Barnato, Luigi Chinetti, Phil Hill and Graham Hill. There are also painting of details of the circuit with the hairpin bend and the Dunlop footbridge. As well as portraits of personalities who have marked the history of the 24 heures, like Charles Ernest Faroux, creator of the race with Georges Durand, John Wyer, manager of the Gulf team, and Jean Rondeau, Manceau and winner of the race in his creation. The artist gives his own interpretation of the eight major brands that have dominated Le Mans for decades: Bentley, Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, Ferrari, Ford, Porsche and Audi. This superb book of watercolours pays tribute to a legendary race.
