24H Le Mans 1964. Far behind the victorious Ferrari, only one of the 5 cars entered by the René Bonnet automobile company finished the race. A year later, it was bought by Matra, an arms specialist, who wanted to use motorsport to sell production cars. Although the first attempts were not conclusive, Matra quickly began to make a name for itself among the greats, thanks in particular to the passion and energy of its engineers. It would take until the 1972 edition for the French team to win its first title with 3 cars in the lead!

Thus began a fabulous series of three consecutive victories that completed the great reconquest of French motorsport with a new generation of drivers destined to become legends: Beltoise, Cevert, Larrousse, Jabouille... and Henri Pescarolo.
