Comic book 24H du Mans 1999
On the 12th June 1999 in the Indianapolis section of the 24 Heures du Mans circuit, the Mercedes CLR n°5, driving at over 300km/hr, lost control and started to lift off, like a plane. It spun three times in the air before crashing into the trees next to the track. It remains one of the most famous and spectacular accidents in modern racing history. Nobody believed for a second that the driver would be alive.
The pace cars and security staff ran to his aid. But, to everyone’s surprise, Peter Dumbreck escaped unharmed. Marked by this spectacular incident, the 1999 race is also known as the race where all of the biggest car manufacturers competed for the last time in the 20th century.
