An American newspaper, The New Indian, questions the ability of European racing drivers and decides to organise a competition called "The Great Challenge", pitting the best drivers from the Old Continent against America's finest. The goal is to crown one American and one French driver across five legendary events: the Argentine Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Spa-Francorchamps and the Nürburgring. Michel Vaillant is chosen to represent France, while the Americans select Steve Warson.
