The very first twenty-four-hour endurance Grand Prix was run at Le Mans on May 26 and 27, 1923. Over the course of a century and ninety-five editions, more than five thousand cars, driven by some twelve thousand drivers and maintained by tens of thousands of mechanics, have competed in this famous motor race, in front of almost fourteen million spectators! Thousands of pages could be written about all the adventures that took place around the Sarthe circuit. Here, symbolically, are twenty-four singular stories, the exploits of twenty-four heroes and heroines, famous or anonymous, who, among so many others, have left their mark on the history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
