The history of the 24 hours of Le Mans begins on May 26, 1923 at 4 pm. This brand new event was created by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest four years after the end of the Great War. If it remains confidential, it attracts foreign competitors, such as the Englishman Bentley. For this first edition, he will finish only fourth, but totally seduced by the exercise. In the following years, the "Bentley Boys" – a group of wealthy gentlemen drivers – will return to write the myth of competition along with the history of motorsport.
